About the band program

Our students start in like-instrument beginner classes in sixth grade at the Argyle Sixth Grade Center. Brass classes are taught by Mr. McNair, Woodwind classes are taught by Mrs. Cote, and percussion classes are taught by Mr. Quinlan. Our beginner band students combine for their concerts and competitions.

Our 7th and 8th grade students at Argyle Middle School meet in one of four band classes based on ability level. We also have Jazz Band and Colorguard electives for middle schoolers who choose to enroll in those programs.

In high school, all students perform as a part of the Argyle High School Marching Band in the fall and split into three ability-based ensembles for concerts and competitions in the Spring. High school students also have the option of performing with the Colorguard and Winterguard and we will offer a Jazz Band class for the first time at Argyle High School in the fall of 2024.

The Argyle Middle School band advanced to the State level of the TMEA Honor Band process in 2023 and placed 10th in the State. Our middle school bands have been named both commended and national winners in the Mark of Excellence and Citation of Excellence competition. In 2019, the Argyle Middle School Honor Winds were invited to perform at the Music for All National festival in Indianapolis.

The Argyle High School band advanced to the State level of the TMEA Honor Band process and was named the Class 4A Honor Band in 2022. They performed at the 2023 TMEA clinic and convention in San Antonio. The high school band is an eight time UIL State Marching contest champion and has also earned two silver medals. They have been the class champion twice at the Bands of America Super Regional in San Antonio, where they also swept all of the award captions in 2022 and 2023.
